Imagine a page of your website that’s full of key information, but the layout feels flat or unorganized.
Instead of manually rearranging every element, the Design Assistant can do the work for you. With a single click, it uses artificial intelligence (AI) to format your existing text into a polished layout made of different blocks.
If you’re starting a new page from scratch, check out the Page Writer to both write and design a first draft.
How to Use the Design Assistant
The Design Assistant can be used to improve the look of any existing page on your website.
- First, be sure you’re logged in to make edits.
- Using the admin menu, navigate to the “Pages” section. Click on the page you’d like to redesign to open the editor.
- In the top right corner of the editor, between the View and Settings icons, click the paintbrush to open the Design Assistant.

- Click the “Improve Design” button. It will take 30-60 seconds to review your page content and design a new layout.

- Use the toggle to switch between the two versions to compare the original and the new design.
- Note: You can’t make edits to the page while comparing designs.
- Click the “Live Preview” button to preview the design in a new tab.

- If you’re happy with the look, click the “Use New Design” button to accept the changes and continue making edits to the page.
- If you’d rather keep your original design, make sure the toggle is set to Original Design and click the “Keep Original Design” button. You can then click the “Improve Design” button again to have the Design Assistant create a different layout.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Design Assistant will preserve the majority of your existing text on the page. Its goal is to reformat your content into a new layout, not to write or edit your content. It may make minor text additions, like adding a heading or writing text for a new button.
The Design Assistant will do its best to keep any images, embeds, or other media that you’ve already added to the page.
The tool isn’t able to generate original images. Instead, you may see that a design includes empty Image or Gallery blocks where the Design Assistant suggests adding media to improve the layout.
Currently, the Design Assistant is only available for pages. It can’t be used for other types of content on your website like blog posts, events, volunteer opportunities or library items.
