Video content is an engaging way to tell a story or deliver a message to your supporters. By adding videos to your page content, you can convey helpful and heartfelt information in a different and easy-to-consume way. In this article, you’ll learn how to insert a video on a web page. The same process can also be used to add videos into blog posts.
Video Hosting
Before we get started, you’ll want to have a video that’s hosted on a video sharing site, like YouTube or Vimeo. Don’t worry, the video will still appear on the page and your visitors will not need to leave your website to watch it. And, if you’d like to keep people from finding the videos on those platforms, many video hosting services have privacy settings you can use to limit their visibility.
There are several perks to hosting your video elsewhere, like how easy it is to then share it on social media or via email. It also helps the page to load a little faster for your visitors.
Posting a video on YouTube
In case you’re unfamiliar with how to post a video on a video hosting site, we can walk you through the process. Let’s use YouTube as an example.
You’ll first need to sign into or create a YouTube account for your nonprofit. Once you’re logged in, click the video camera icon in the top right-hand corner and select “Upload Video”.
From there, you can select the files that you’d like to upload and choose your privacy settings from the drop-down if you don’t want the video to be public. Watch the video from YouTube’s Help channel to see step-by-step instructions.
Inserting a Video into Page Content
Once you have your video hosting squared away, log into your website and click the “Pages” tab on the left and select the page you’d like to add your video to. If the page you’d like to include it on doesn’t yet exist, go ahead and create a page. From there, the process is fairly simple. Click the image below to watch the process.
- Within the content editor, find the area where you’d like to add a video and select Add Block.
- Choose the Video option.
- Select Insert from URL.
- Add the link to your video from YouTube, Vimeo or another video hosting site in the first large box.
- Click Apply.
You’re all set! Preview the page to watch the video and make sure everything looks as you’d expect. Once you’re satisfied, go ahead and click the “Update” button in the sidebar to update the page and get your video onto the live site.
YouTube and Vimeo Blocks
Similar to the steps described above, there are also blocks that are specific to YouTube and Vimeo. If you use one of those hosting services, you can choose the YouTube or Vimeo block instead of the generic Video option. The results are the same, as shown below.
